Alex Jeffrey Clock Company

Alex Jeffrey, a clockmaker known for notable projects like the Big Ben restoration, needed a website. The goal was to highlight his work and allow him to independently update it. The website is developed using Wordpress for the CMS, JavaScript and PHP for the functionality.

Objective

To build on my experience using CMS systems, creating a website that not only exhibits Alex's work but also provides him with the ability to update content and images independently.

Approach

I started the project by understanding Alex's specific requirements for his website. The objective was to display Alex's projects and generate new business leads. With this in mind, we opted for a minimalist design to highlight his work, including a case study page and a call to action throughout the site. In the initial phase, we used Figma for collaboration and to provide Alex with a preview of an early prototype.

I chose WordPress as the platform for this project due to its flexibility and ease of use. By utilising plugins like Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and WP-Forms, I was able to streamline interactions and make the website more user-friendly. I also used WordPress's post feature to create individual case studies, which were dynamically populated on the case studies page through PHP loops. This approach eliminated the need for hardcoding each entry, ensuring that any new case studies would be automatically added to the page.

Key learnings

My experience in JavaScript was useful in understanding PHP loops, especially when working with WordPress posts. This project contributed to my knowledge of web components, integrating them into my existing set of skills.
